Celebrating Culture and Community at Chinchilla’s NAIDOC day
Celebrating Culture and Community at Chinchilla’s NAIDOC day

On Sunday 6 July, members of the Wambo Wind Farm team were proud to join the vibrant celebration of culture, connection and community at the Chinchilla NAIDOC family fun day, marking the beginning of NAIDOC Week 2025.
Held in Chinchilla’s Botanical Gardens, the event brought people together from across the region to celebrate the rich history, culture and achievements of First Nations People. The day was packed with activities for all ages – market stalls, food vendors, traditional weaving and art workshops and even a skateboarding area.
The day began with a heartfelt Welcome to Country and an official opening with the local dance group followed by a powerful smoking ceremony held in the Yarning Circle which burned throughout the day. The ceremony set a reflective and unifying tone for the rest of the day, offering a moment to pause, listen and reflect.
We even took up the opportunity to get a quick health check on the mobile heart of Australia bus – just one example of how the event supported not only cultural awareness but also community wellbeing.
This year’s NAIDOC week theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy” celebrating a milestone of 50 years of honouring First Nations voices and culture. With the theme centered around celebrating not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by strength of the young leaders, the community's vision and the ancestry legacy.
Events like Chinchilla NAIDOC community day are more than just a celebration – they foster understanding, respect and stronger ties between communities. For us as a renewable energy project in the region, attending and supporting these gatherings is an important part of how we continue to learn, listen, and grow alongside the communities we work with.
We were also proud to be a sponsor for this year’s event, as part of our ongoing commitment to support local initiatives and First Nations communities and celebrate their connection to the lands which surround the project.
Our thanks to the organisers including Chinchilla Community Centre, Elders, First Nations community and all participants for such a warm welcome and for sharing their stories and culture. What a start to NAIDOC week!
