Wambo Wind Farm backs local community projects with $200,000 boost

Seven community groups across Bell and Jandowae will share in $200,000 through Wambo Wind Farm’s 2026 Community Benefit Fund bumper round, supporting locally led projects that improve much loved community facilities.
The funding will support a range of community-led projects, including improvements to kitchens, halls, electrical infrastructure, technology and essential equipment used by local clubs, community committees and volunteer organisations.
Wambo Wind Farm Project Director Stewart Alexander said the bumper round recognised the vital role local groups play in bringing people together and supporting everyday community life.
“Community facilities are often at the heart of regional towns. They are where people meet, volunteer, celebrate, support each other and stay connected,” Mr Alexander said.
“These projects all share a common goal, making local spaces safer, more functional and more useful for the communities who rely on them.
“We’re proud to support the volunteers and community organisations working hard to keep these facilities strong for Bell, Jandowae and surrounding communities.”
The successful projects include:
Bell Bunya Community Centre | Upgrade kitchen equipment, improving safety and efficiency while supporting the centre’s role as a hub for local groups, activities and events. |
Bell Memorial Public Hall | Upgrade electrical infrastructure, improving safety, reliability and functionality for community events, performances and gatherings. |
Jandowae Bowls Club | Renovate clubhouse kitchen, improving facilities for members and supporting the club’s ongoing role as a venue for fundraisers and community events. |
Jandowae Campdraft Association | Upgrade electrical infrastructure servicing the canteen, amenities and water system at the Jandowae Showgrounds, improving functionality and supporting greater use of the grounds by local groups and event organisers. |
Jandowae Golf Club | Purchase a new greens mower, helping maintain high-quality playing surfaces and supporting the long-term sustainability of an important community recreation facility. |
Jandowae Memorial Hall Committee | Install a new projector and screen, improving the hall’s capability to host meetings, events, presentations and community engagement activities. |
Queensland Country Womens Association (Jinghi Valley) | Purchase technology and catering equipment, strengthening their capacity to deliver services, activities and support to the community. |
The 2026 bumper round follows local engagement and community-led workshops held earlier this year, where residents shared their priorities and aspirations for the future of their towns.
Mr Alexander said the fund was designed to respond to local needs and deliver benefits that communities could see and use.
“Being a good long-term neighbour means listening to what matters locally and supporting projects that make a genuine difference,” he said.
“This round has allowed us to support larger, community-led projects that directly reflect the priorities local people have identified.
“As Wambo Wind Farm moves closer to full operations, we look forward to continuing to invest in the people, places and projects that help these communities thrive for many years to come.”
The latest round brings Wambo Wind Farm’s total investment through the Community Benefit Fund and Community Sponsorship Program to almost $700,000 since construction began.
The Community Benefit Fund is one of several initiatives supporting long-term social and economic value across the Western Downs, alongside the Community Sponsorship Program and Neighbour Benefit Scheme.
Secretary of the Jandowae Bowls Club, Ailsa Brame, said the club’s kitchen has served the community for many years, and the funding is fantastic news for everyone who relies on it.
“The kitchen is at the heart of our club and has supported countless community gatherings over the years.”
“These upgrades will make a real difference and help ensure the club can continue supporting our community when people come together, whether it’s to celebrate, connect or support one another during difficult times.”
The next round of Wambo Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund will open in 2027.
