Stanwell Corporation and Cubico Sustainable Investments, co-owners of Wambo Wind Farm, are calling for applications for the 2024 Wambo Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund, that will see another $200,000 invested in local projects in the Diamondy region and surrounds.

The annual benefit fund forms part of Wambo Wind Farm’s commitment to support the communities in which it will operate and establish long-term benefits for surrounding towns including (But not limited to) Jandowae, Chinchilla and Dalby.

Stanwell CEO Michael O’Rourke said the Community Benefit Fund is an important part of Wambo Wind Farm’s connection with its host communities.

“This will be the third year our Community Benefit Fund has funded local projects that support the towns and communities surrounding Wambo Wind Farm.

“We are looking for initiatives that promote community sustainability, connectivity, health and well-being or resilience – no matter how big or small.

David Smith, Head of Country, Australia, Cubico said The Community Benefit Fund is open to all ideas which could create opportunities for this part of the region.

As a good neighbour, we want to contribute to our communities and we’d like to hear your suggestions about how this fund can make a positive impact.

“We want to work with the local community to select the most meaningful projects for the region, and we encourage interested community members to apply or contact our team about how we can support your project.

The Community Benefit Fund has already helped a range of projects such as the Bell on Display initiative undertaken by the Bell Bunya Community Association, which received funding in 2023 to showcase the Bell region’s community history, memorabilia, and artefacts.

Ruth Storey, Manager of the Bell Bunya Community Association said the Wambo Wind Farm Benefit Fund provided invaluable support for a project that otherwise could not source funding.

“With the support provided by Wambo Wind Farm, we can protect and share the treasured memories and history of our community,” she said.

“Many locals have entrusted us with some of their most precious keepsakes, such as war medals and family mementos that tell the story of our people and our history. Without this funding, they would simply gather dust alongside the stories of our past.”

Applications for funding are now open and will close on 18 March 2024.
